Go Team
In our speech class we are now doing a project with kids from around the country. Our project mash up topic is Mobiles and Speed. The only way I can explain how this looks is when you look at your phone or labtop. These things are mobiles. Anything electronic that you can take where ever you like is a mobile. Now the other part, speed, is very important. Speed is what make what ever you do on your mobile go faster in loading, downloading and other sorts like that. Take the new Android, that thing is so super fast, faster than my stationary computer which is at home. Speed in mobiles is also very important and valued to us because with out it there would be a lot of crazy stressed workers out there. For you procrastinators out there if speed doesn't work to your advantage then how will you email that paper at 11:59 on time with out that speed your getting an F. I'm very sure that when my group starts more research I'll be able to have more information.
The 8
In our B2 speech class we have been reading Tapscott's book about Net Gen Norms. He writes about the how our generation is way different from the boomer parents. We have get so much out of what we have. Eight traits he talks about are freedom, customization, scrutiny, integrity, collaboration, entertainment, speed, and innovation. He goes on to say the we have grown up as creators, actors, players, innovators and much more. When you read history book about the 50's and 60's (the years of our parents or grandparents) and how children grew up, it’s very different. The internet wasn't even invented till the 80's I believe.
FREEDOM, was the first. I hadn't really thought about it but its true. Our generation feels very free with the way we use the computer and other digital communication. think about it, back when mom and dad were young the only way to get a hold of a person was about 2 or 3 ways. Call them, talk to them in person, or write a letter. Now look at us, there are probably 1,000 ways. Facebook, texting, calling, email, skype and soooo many more. With this freedom though it kinda makes us lazy. Tappscot goes on to say how his graduated high school class was lucky just to get their first job and work hard for it, but now a days, and I do this too, but we don't think the first job really matters and its ok to mess up and be late, sloppy! Its like we are afraid of commitment. We have got this "Yes We Can" in our head that says we can do what we want, when we want and no one can stop us from doing it. Well we can do it but we have to be reasonal. You cant just be like 'I want the job, but I want to work here, between these hours and my own pony!' Ok so maybe not the pony but you get the point.
CUSTOMIZATION: the next of the eight. My mom, bless her, is pretty much computer/cell phone challenged and probably most people in my age group can agree. She gets a thrill off of a fax machine, which don't get me wrong is cool but with things like the iPad and others touch screen this and that a fax machine, really mom. Tappscott writes about how he received a iPad and how his daughter and friend opened it for him and hooked him up with his favorite movies, music and cool things like that, but he just let it sit there. He goes on to say he just wanted it to work, not work for him. We as "Norms" are customizes, designers, creator, but most of all we are personalizes. Take your phone for example. When we get a new one the first thing that comes to mind is making it yours and setting it up to represent you. For example, my phone is blue( my fav color), with a skinit of my favorite painting. I have pictures of my friends and I and I have set things up that are for me to look at quickly and easy to access. My mom on the other hand, she could care less. she just learned how to use her texting, taking a picture right side up is next on the list. This isn't just personalizing our phones or computers though we also to this to our jobs.
SCRUTINY, is by definition "close and continuous watching or guarding." Have you ever noticed that adults seem to fall for things a little better than our generation. Tappscott tells about a prank he did on his workers and after I read the email he sent I was just like really. He writes "I would get responses like “Nice try” and “You and Angelina. Right.” However, associates my age reacted in a completely different manner. They were falling over themselves to join the afternoon discussions and attend the cocktail party. I believe the expression is they fell for it hook, line, and sinker. And they were not happy to find out that Angelina was not going to appear." Haha suckers. But really we have seen spams, scams and hoaxes of all sorts. We seem to be able to tell Fact to Fiction. We know what’s going on in the world around us and what’s happening. YAY we are smart! No really we know this because we can check on web sites and other media things. My best friend Izzy always read magazines and watches shows on stars. I'm pretty sure she knows them better than they know themselves. We know to be careful online and what to look for.
INTEGRITY! Why does everyone think our generation is just a bunch of lazy texting, and facebooking kids? We have been stereotyped that we don't give a dern about anything, but that's not true! We have integrity, honesty, and considerate. Some of the nicest people I know are my friends. I see so many kids helping out in ways you wouldn't even imagine. Our generation has is so much tolerant then the past generation and have grown in knowledge.
COLLABORATION. This comes natural to us Netgens. We like to be in touch with friends and share and communicate with others. As Tapscott said in a way, we always feel connected because it’s as if we have all our friends in our pocket.
ENTERTAINMENT!! Brightness, color, and flair. It’s all attractive to us. Netgens have turned the advertising world upside down. Also in entertainment. The internet is a big entertainment factor. Think about it. Every time we get on to do a homework assignment or project research we all have the urge to check our facebook or go to 20 different things that don’t relate to our work at all. For example at this moment I am writing this, checking a local theater center from here and filling out an audition form while checking my email and Gmail and about to start a new blog. I’m so ADHD (not making fun of people, I really am ha)!
SPEED! It’s so frustrating when we log into something and it isn’t going fast enough for us. You all know what I’m talking about because we all have had a slow connection and just wanted to take a baseball bat to the thing. Our generation grew up with things always growing, getting better and faster so speed is just expected to us.
INNOVATION. This is the last of the eight. From the radio to TV to colored TV to now we have come a long way. Back then you slowly got a new radio that was up to date over the course of a few years. Now it’s like omg I like need a new phone like now but they got a new one just a few months ago. We want what we don’t have. We want to have the new and latest thing. Well most of us anyway.
Way to go generation we are changing life in every way possible but you better keep up, tomorrow it could all change.

The importance of meeting deadlines (business and education)
This little post is about the very word that we all struggle with. Deadlines. Being a sophomore in high school this word is nothing new to me, everyone has deadlines, its just how life is. If you don't have deadlines then lucky you! Now here is the fork in the road, what deadlines are important? Don't laugh, I know it is a stupid question but some really do think that missing a deadline because they don't think its important is OK. Well as much as some hate hearing it (including me) ALL deadlines are important, in the business and educational world. In business and being a student meeting your deadlines is so very important. Its really important for kids to meet their deadlines now so when they are older and in business they will be in habit. Now I'm not a full time worker so I am not familiar to with deadlines you are given, but I do know that they are important and how hard they can be to meet. You have families you take care of and that can interrupt and that's OK but its important to get it done still. This can also go for students. You have friends, boyfriends/girlfriends, jobs, and extra circular activities plus deadlines! How can we handle it all?! One of the things I find that helps is organization, of everything! If your in a clear and happy environment. I know from experience that when there is clutter and I know things are needing to be done I stress making me not want to do anything. Keeping a planner is how I do it. With out it I'm at a lost! Writing down my deadlines in order helps me see what needs to me done each day and how much time I have to do it. Also it shows me First things First, meaning what is more important to get done first. When you meet a deadline it is the best feeling in the world. Key is to be organized and to not procrastinate. You might think one deadline isn't as important as others, or I'm just a student so why does it matter this isn't my job but it is. To make yourself the best you can be.

Accepting criticism, and giving it!
In my past blogs I have talked about multiple things on the web where you can communicate digitally and others can as well. I mentioned all this but failed to talk about probably one of the biggest things when it comes to being a writer on the Internet, netiquette! Netiquette is what it sounds like, Network Etiquette. Netiquette is important because when you are a writer people are going to have their opinions on you work. How you can handle it is where netiquette come into play. With it the Internet can be a positive and better place. Its all about being polite to others and respecting their opinions. Also it is respecting others Wikis and other blogs. Avoiding multi posting, cross-posting, off-topic posting, hijacking a discussion thread, and other techniques are forms of netiquette. Somewhere along the line someone will have a negative remark or will call you out on a mistake you made that might upset you but the best thing to do about it is to not take it out on the Internet. All you need to say is thank you for catching that, or oops didn't see that thank you. If someone disagrees on what you wrote about and states that don't fight with them, simply say thank you for your opinion. Now when on the other side, the critic, be sure to be as polite as humanly possible. Its not against the law to state your opinion as long as you are courteous of others. Keep all this in mind, and just have fun!!

How to present a Digital communicating tool, using a Digital communication tools!
In a class room or office setting, using digital communication is a good way to present information. What if that digital communication information had to be taught or told about? How would you do that? Well there are many ways to do something like this. The very first thing you might want to think about is what type of communication you want to use. What I mean by this is, for example, Youtube vs. Power Point. If you prefer or think it is easier to see someone explaining how to use a digital tool, then Youtube or other video blogs might be in your interest. It will help the audience see you actually doing what they are to be learning. Very good for visual learners. For those who prefer to have it all written down, or don't like recording themselves and presenting that way, you would use Power Point, Diigo, or another document sight like that. This will allow you to have the audience read your directions and look back on them if they miss any information given. This will be beneficial to the slower people you need to take it step by step. So using a digital communication tool to teach a digital communication tool can be simple as that. The most important thing to remember is to be very clear and accurate when doing so.

A New Way of Note Taking
What if there was a place online where you could take notes, bookmark, and research all at the same time? There is a place and its called Diigo. Diigo is a tool created that "mimics" note taking. Its free, its super duper easy and has features you can use to make your notes that much easier. Some features are highlighting, bookmarking, and adding tags to keep you organized. Another great thing about Diigo is that you can access it anytime on any computer. Everything is saved online and can be seen and shared with anyone on the web (so pretty much everyone). This, I believe, is a great for students, in my opinion more so college but also great for high schoolers. If you haven't checked out Diigo, I advise you to try it! Happy Note Taking!
